CLIMATE MARCH IN NEW YORK WILL BRING THE VOICE OF THE AMAZON FOREST
Sunday Sept 20, 1PM Columbus Circle at Central Park Entrance
We join the call of over 25 organizations to march for Climate Justice through Racial Justice on September 20. The Climate Action march will kick off and set a tone for Climate Week by prioritizing Black, Brown, and Indigenous peoples, making clear the intersection between climate justice and racial justice.
An area largest than Sao Paulo State is burning at this moment across the Amazon Forest in Brazil. In 2020 the area of burned forests increased more than 200% compared to last year.
In addition, even the most remote Indigenous groups were affected by the COVID pandemic and left without proper assistance, since the Bolsonaro government dismantled the Indigenous Health Services. The death toll is disproportionately high, with close to 800 deaths amongst the indigenous groups.
In this year’s Climate Action March, the Defend Democracy in Brazil Committee and partners are echoing the call of APIB - the brave leaders of the Articulation of Indigenous People of Brazil:
"Amazon or Bolsonaro ? Which Side Are You on?" and calling for the defunding of corporations that sustain the destruction and the current President.
Mother Earth is crying on fire and devastation. Our ancestors and their leaders are dying of COVID negligence! A genocide against Indigenous and black people is ongoing in Brazil.
