COLLABORATE WITH UNEAFRO'S CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT BLACK AND PERIPHERAL FAMILIES AFFECTED BY CORONA VIRUS
The Defend Democracy in Brazil Committee in New York and the U.S. Network for Democracy in Brazil endorse this campaign and ask you to help us give an extra push to assist UNEAFRO in meeting their campaign goal:
THE CAMPAIGN
We all know that the spread of COVID-19 brings an alert to the world.
In this regard, we would like to highlight the great risk that slums, peripheries and other black neighborhoods face under the lead of the Bolsonaro's administration.
President Bolsonaro not only ignores all the recommendations of national and international organizations and authorities, but he also encourages the poorest people to break confinement and other protection measures against the virus. In his latest statements and in the video campaign below, he implicitly states: "Blacks can't stop working, otherwise Brazil stops.
In other words, he makes clear which segment of the population can and should be exposed to a deadly disease and die, as his concern about economy implies continuing to make profit no matter how, even if he has to sacrifice lives of those who really generate wealth - black and poor people.
As the government is decided to sacrifice those lives, we refuse to accept it. Thus, we need you to help us to bring basic goods to the ones who will give up their income and jobs to protect their families and our lives.

Dear Friends of Brazil:
First of all, we hope you, your loved ones, friends, and colleagues are well as we all face the pandemic here in the United States and in Brazil. These are trying times, and we need to come together to offer each other support.
At the last National Steering Committee Meeting of the U.S. Network for Democracy in Brazil we decided that one very concrete way we could assist people in Brazil was through a fund-raising campaign to support one of many fabulous NGOs that has a long record of fighting for justice and democracy in Brazil.
We decided to focus on supporting UNEAFRO, which operates in 31 communities in São Paulo with large Afro-Brazilian populations. As you may know, they have been involved in successfully organizing community preparatory courses (cursinhos) for the college entrance exams that will allow many more young people from socially and economically diverse population to have access to higher education.
However, with the Covid19 they have to shut down operations and many of those people working with the NGO are facing serious economic hardship. They are targeting support for 81 coordinators, professors, and students who are currently without income.
We ask you to join us with a donation of $25, $50, $100 dollars to support UNEAFRO by going to https://benfeitoria.com/Covid19Brazil
A luta continua,
