Come learn and play with aspects of creative praxis and its possibilities in the application of art and political education in the processes of consciousness formation and community organization.

Hear from Brazil's MST regional organizer and director of Companhia Antropofágica Theatre Group Thiago Reis Vasconcelos, in a practical session co-created and facilitated by theater artist, activist and educator Natalia de Campos/ Syncretic Pleasures, also co-coordinator of the Defend Democracy in Brazil committee (DDB-NY).

Join other activists and artists in this creative exploration together with a discussion on class consciousness, popular organizing, and what affects workers daily lives, including healthy eating , environmental solutions, immigration rights, and youth involvement.

About the facilitators:

Thiago Reis Vasconcelos has been a founding member of Companhia Antropofágica since 2002, being the creator of the Monhangokaracy Theater Festival and the 3 editions of the Feira Antropofágica de Opinião and a director of multiple projects in S˜ão Paulo.

He was an arts teacher at CEU Pêra Marmelo, at the EMIA project (Municipal School of Artistic Initiation) and at FEBEM (Fundação Bem-estar do Menor) and music at the Colleges: Invenções, Emilie de Vileneuve and Jardim São Paulo. Coordinates the Antropofágica theater group since 2004.

He carries out projects and consultancy in the areas of education and cultural policies, having been part of the CNPC (National Council for Cultural Policies) of the Ministry of Culture. Thiago is currently coordinator of the popular school of Agroecology( EPA – Escola Popular de Agroecologia) and coordinator of the Okaracy cultural Space, both in Comuna da Terra Irmã Alberta of the MST, the Landless Rural Workers Movement in Brazil. He graduated in Art Education and Literature, and is currently studying for a master's degree at the UNESP Institute of Arts.


Natalia de Campos is a Brazilian performance and theater artist, producer, writer, educator, translator, and activist, living in New York since 1998. She has performed and toured extensively and founded the multidisciplinary arts collaborative Syncretic Pleasures to produce and perform works by Brazilian authors, including her own.

In 2016 she co-founded and is a co-coordinator of the Defend Democracy in Brazil Committee in New York with a group of Brazilian activists who fight for democracy, social justice, and work in internationalist solidarity with social movements at the forefront of social transformation in Brazil.


Natalia has taught Portuguese as an independent educator for 30 years, as well as in association with The People's Forum since 2021. She also teaches about Brazilian social movements, social engagement, collaboration, solo performance & activism and has lectured at CUNY, Rutgers, Columbia University, NYU, Universidad de Santiago - Chile, Left Forum, and many independent institutions. She has a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of São Paulo, a Master’s degree in Performance & Interactive Media Arts from CUNY/ Brooklyn College. Natalia was a member of The Living Theatre and  other companies.
